3 Questions We All Ask – Nicholas Wilton – Ep 153
November 20, 2024
ON TODAY’S EPISODE
Retreats help uncover improved artistic skills and are a way to fuel your inspiration and enthusiasm. What participants are really looking for on a retreat is not just improved artistic skills but a lifelong practice that fuels continual personal and creative development.
In this episode, I’ll answer three questions that we all ask from time to time:
- How do I find a path to my authentic art?
- How do I make and set intentions for my future Art?
- How do I keep going once I get home?
So many rich experiences and insights come from participating in artistic retreats. Retreats offer an immersive environment for artists to dig deep into their creativity while aligning their artistic pursuits with their overall life goals.
You can pursue what excites you and fills your soul because true artistic growth stems from aligning with your deeper desires and instincts. Learn how to stay inspired in this episode.

Nurture your creative path
The key to authentic art often lies in past experiences and work. By reflecting on previous projects and their emotional impact, artists can unearth valuable clues that guide their future artistic directions. This introspection forms the basis for authentic self-expression, which truly allows you to develop a unique artistic style.
Participants who come to my retreats are immersed in a community that nurtures creativity and growth, helping them push past their perceived boundaries. We enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings, curate the music, and embrace local celebrations, like the recent Day of the Dead festivities, to enhance the artists’ overall creative experience and well-being.
Start your art creation from a place of feeling and connecting with your deepest emotions. By prioritizing this emotional connection, artists can produce work that resonates more deeply with themselves and their audience.
Creating from this space fosters authenticity and ensures that the artistic process is fulfilling and energizing. Look for things you feel connected to—the breadcrumbs of where our future art is are found in the past work we’ve made and the experiences we’ve had in making the art.
Energizing your path
It’s so important to align your path with elements that truly energize and inspire. Personalizing your artistic journey to include what you love is so vital for that sustained creative flow. Find those elements that have been integral to your personal and professional life to identify and incorporate similar energizing conditions in their own paths.
Setting intentions, while powerful, can also be daunting because of the pressure they put on you. Instead of overwhelming commitments, make manageable commitments that challenge and foster growth. By breaking down intentions into smaller, achievable steps, artists can maintain momentum without feeling paralyzed by the enormity of their aspirations.
Reflection and inspiration
Jot down powerful or inspiring thoughts shared during the retreat. This practice anchors your intentions and serves as a tangible reminder of their growth and insights gained, beneficial for their continued artistic journey beyond the retreat.
One of the more challenging aspects of participating in a retreat is maintaining the inspired energy once back home. You have to understand the conditions that encourage creativity and find ways to incorporate them into everyday life. If you do this the post-retreat transition is much smoother, and the retreat’s positive impact will resonate long after you get home.
