September 4, 2024

ON TODAY’S EPISODE

Your art is the most important thing in your life, so how can you possibly put a price on it? This week, I’m talking about how to value your art and your time and why outsourcing the tasks you don’t love allows you to buy back more time to spend in the studio.

I’m excited to explore questions you may battle about selling art and scaling your business. Fueling your creative journey by getting support and mentorship in monetizing your art is invaluable. It will give you the time and freedom you need to create work you love that reflects your authentic self.

Your authentic art resonates with viewers

Selling your art can feel daunting. The journey from creating work you love to successfully selling it isn’t always linear, so I want to open the conversation on how you can put a price on your time and monetize your passion.

Success is about creating and sharing art that you love—art that reflects your true self. Your authenticity resonates with viewers, who can sense the time and effort you’ve poured into your art and respond to it emotionally.

When you put your art online, take part in local events and shows, and allow yourself to be vulnerable, you’re giving people the opportunity to buy something they love. There is nothing wrong with making money from your art and wanting to make as much money as you can for your amazing art because it represents freedom.

Living artfully

Living artfully means integrating creativity into your life even during periods when you aren’t actively making art. Viewing life through an artistic lens can enhance your creative process when you return to your artwork.

When you value your time and understand that each moment spent on your craft adds depth and meaning to your work, it leads to greater artistic freedom and monetary success.

Align your heart, mind, and soul towards creating expressive, unique art. Our time is the most valuable thing we have, which is why it’s so useful to understand how to give yourself time to enjoy making your art. Self-perception plays a crucial role in this. Instead of undervaluing their creations, artists should see themselves and their work as priceless.

Balancing work and fun

Enjoyment should be at the heart of art-making, offering you the freedom to shape your practice however you want. Tracking the time spent on various activities, like sketching or seeking inspiration, gives you the clarity to understand where to invest in external support to propel your artistic career forward. Outsourcing tasks that don’t align with your core strengths can help you focus more on creating and make you more productive.

Artists often resist making money from their art but financial freedom allows for more time to create without the constant stress of financial instability. Monetizing your art is a positive step towards more creation and improvement.

Even if earnings are modest at first, recognizing your current stage without undervaluing your work is essential. This mindset enables artists to embrace their journey and steadily increase their art’s value over time.
