Stage 1 – Intellectual Understanding
The intellectual understanding stage is the foundational step in the journey of making your art. It begins with an intellectual engagement with new concepts and ideas. This involves questioning traditional beliefs about art, such as the notion that some people are more talented than others or that some creations are inherently good or bad.
This process is about opening up to the possibility that there could be a different approach to art-making. It’s about recognizing and challenging the negative influences that have shaped our perceptions of our capabilities. At this stage, you are primarily using your mind to understand that the feeling of aliveness and authenticity can be cultivated and that these are pivotal to creating impactful art. By choosing to focus on what excites and inspires us, we can begin to shift our energy and transform our creative output.
Stage 2 – Embodiment
In the embodiment stage, the concepts understood intellectually begin to take root within your being. This is the process of translating intellectual understanding into felt experience. Become more attuned to what genuinely energizes and excites you, and learn to hold these feelings within yourself. Your ideas start to resonate on a personal level. In art-making, this means not just thinking about what feels authentic but actually feeling it in your physical body and emotional state.
Art becomes a medium to express these embodied feelings. This stage is less about following external standards and more about aligning with your true self. Through practice, artists develop an intuitive sense of what feels right and start to trust their inner guidance. Embodiment bridges the gap between intellectual understanding and authentic expression.
Stage 3 – Becoming Your Art
The final stage, becoming your art, is where the artist and their work are no longer separate entities. The artist embodies their art to such an extent that their life and creative output form a continuous loop of expression and inspiration. This state transcends mere creation; it is about living and breathing your art in every aspect of your existence. The art you produce becomes a direct reflection of your authentic self, and because of this, it gains a potent magnetic quality that draws people toward it.
There is a seamless flow between life and art, where making art feels effortless and deeply fulfilling. Becoming your art means that your work is no longer confined to the canvas; it permeates every action and decision, making your entire life a work of art.
