Tip #1: Be Authentic on Instagram
Authenticity isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a fundamental aspect of creating content that resonates with people. By being genuine, artists can build a stronger connection with their audience.
The content that you share should come directly from your artistic practice and experiences. Authenticity shines through when you share both the highs and the lows of your artistic journey.
Don’t shy away from sharing your struggles and challenges. Vulnerability fosters relatability, making your audience feel more connected to you. Sharing the difficulties and breakthroughs in your art practice creates a powerful bond with your audience. Genuine transparency helps people understand you better—and connect to your art.
Being authentic is much simpler and less exhausting than trying to create something that just isn’t you. By being yourself, you don’t have to put on an act or create an artificial persona. This reduces the pressure to be perfect and allows you to focus on your art and its genuine expression.
Tip #2: You don’t have to be an expert
Many aspiring artists often feel that their work isn’t good enough for public sharing or that they need to achieve certain milestones before they can be considered credible. But even those who are relatively new to their practice can offer valuable insights. You don’t need to be an expert—you just need to be you.
Sharing your journey, including your learning process and discoveries, is incredibly valuable to your audience. It’s often more relatable and inspiring for others who are also on a similar path. Being only a little ahead of someone else in your journey can make your content more relevant and engaging.
By routinely sharing your progress, you’ll build trust with your audience. Try committing to posting every day for 30 to 60 days to develop a habit and boost your confidence. This consistent engagement will help you refine your art, improve your communication skills, and gradually attract more followers.
Tip #3: Carefully curate your content
Be mindful of the type of content you are creating. Effective Instagram posts fall into three types: educational, entertaining, and encouraging. Each of these types serves a different purpose and can appeal to various aspects of your audience’s interests.
- Educational content: Educational content aims to teach something. Educational posts can include tutorials, tips, and insights into your art-making process. By sharing your learning experiences and techniques, you help others and reinforce your own knowledge.
- Entertaining content: Entertaining content, on the other hand, includes funny stories or emotional elements that draw your audience in. For instance, sharing a compelling story about a challenging moment in your artistic journey can create a deep emotional connection with your audience. These posts often have the potential to go viral and reach a wider audience.
- Encouraging content: Encouraging content is simple—it’s designed to motivate and inspire the viewer to change the way they think and take action.
By incorporating these three types of content into your Instagram posts, you create a well-rounded and engaging profile that can attract and retain followers. Remember, sharing your art can be a fulfilling and energizing part of your creative process.
