ON TODAY’S EPISODE

Everything starts with creative expression. Cherie Healey believes that leadership is the greatest creative endeavor of all time. But too many people feel they’re “not qualified” to be leaders because their definition of leadership is outdated.

Leadership is first and foremost about learning to lead yourself. It’s also about gaining clarity, living your passion, and inspiring others. She believes that you are more powerful than you know.

Changing the definition of leadership

When most people think of leadership, they think it’s leading people. But it’s also leading yourself. What do you require to be the best version of yourself? How can you show up in your role and make an impact?

Secondly, leadership isn’t teaching people to follow you. It’s about bringing out the best in others. It’s about encouragement. It’s about stoking the collective wisdom. It’s not about being perfect—it’s being what you want to see in the world.

A good leader is a giver, someone who contributes to the world. Your contribution is taking something from your soul to be seen and witnessed. That has to start within because you can’t give from what you don’t have. You need to know the impact that you can—and do—have. You are more powerful than you know.

The value in asking for help

You have to learn from people who are further ahead of you because you can’t overcome everything alone. Equip yourself with the resources to grow and become who you need to be to do the things you need to do.

We need to be co-regulated by the people that we’re around. You have to bring out the best in each other. We need a healthy and sustainable culture around us that allows everyone to thrive.

We all have a gift to share with the world. It’s our fingerprint. We all want to look back on our lives and say, “We did it.” We can’t do that without a village of amazing humans around us.

Your community provides you safety. Listen to people who are in the arena with you. Surround yourself with people who are creators, too. Without that community, you will feel lonely.

Creating the optimal environment for creativity

You have to develop the ability to balance yourself—your triggers, the things that fill you and deplete you. You need time away from triggers and demands, to learn what you’re saying yes or no to. We need to create the conditions for all to succeed.

Our souls pull us toward what we’re created to do. Our greatest drive is to be congruent with who we think we are. We are going to do what we believe we can do. We’re all growing and working to arrive at a place at peace with ourselves.

You’re in the dance. It’s your job to do your best to be skilled, turn all of your senses on, and have fun.

Desire is your greatest friend

Have you ever thought, “Oh God, it would be so incredible to paint” or “I know I’m made of something more?” What do you have to make happen? What do you long for? Is there something you’ve longed to do your entire life? Your longing didn’t come out of nowhere—it’s there for a reason.

You have to be open to it. You have to believe that you’re worthy of it. And when that desire is really intense, it’s because it’s right around the corner. Your breakthrough is close. You’re being driven to do something that’s more authentic and more gutsy. Desire is your greatest friend.

Things fall into place when you move toward your desire. So hold on to that thread. It will give you more energy. And remember, you’re more powerful than you know.
