As I prepare for my July show, there’s always a period of struggle when I’m figuring out what’s working and what’s not.
Here’s a tip that’s helping me now…
I ask myself two questions: “What do I like in this painting?” and “Where do I feel most free?” Then I look for those areas in the work. When I feel more free, my authenticity shines through. It’s not about painting wildly, but rather creating work that feels less constrained. Authenticity comes through and my work feels more natural. This approach keeps me in touch with myself and quiets the externalities.
What helps you stay free in your practice? Let me know in the comments.
On the Art2Life Podcast this week, I’m excited to interview Danielle Laporte, an author and philanthropist who helps people live from the heart. We made art together and talked about the importance of intuitive, heart-centered living. I hope you’ll join us this Wednesday. You can tune in on your favorite podcast streaming service, or grab some supplies and paint along with us while watching on our YouTube Channel.
Have an awesome Sunday and make some art!
Nicholas
